With its lush rainforests, clear blue water, fiery sunsets, and rich cultural heritage, Hawaii is a beautiful place full of color and life. The vibrant palette of these tropical islands is the inspiration for the new solids and prints in our Spring 2025 collection. Every month, we donate to a NICU that has been nominated by our community members through our Nominate-a-NICU initiative. In honor of Hawaii and this month’s launch of this collection, we have chosen Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children as our February NICU.
“KMCWC is the leading NICU facility in the State of Hawaii. Many families from the various islands come to KMCWC, as many of the rural hospitals cannot provide the same level of care. This leads to many interisland families relocating for months at a time. During my daughter’s stay, the NICU staff provided such amazing care and aloha to our family.”

Located in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawaii’s only maternity, newborn, and pediatric specialty hospital. Its Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides highly specialized medical and surgical care to approximately 1,000 babies across the entire state every year. Although all three NICUs in Hawaii are Level III units, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children is the only public pediatric tertiary care center in the state. Because its transport team is also the only emergency pediatric transport team providing specialized care by both ground and air, newborns from other NICUs on Oahu and neighboring islands are transported to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children when a higher level of care is needed.
Thanks to a dedicated multidisciplinary NICU team and state-of-the-art equipment, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children is able to care for newborns who need acute medical interventions, including:
-
Breathing support, including conventional, high-frequency oscillator and jet ventilation for premature and full-term babies
-
Inhaled nitric oxide for severe lung problems
-
Complex pediatric surgical procedures
-
Cardiac interventions, including open cardiothoracic surgical procedures
-
Whole-body cooling and real-time seizure monitoring
-
Advanced imaging, such as MRI
-
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
-
Rapid, on-site access to a wide range of pediatric medical subspecialists
-
Perinatal comfort care and palliative care for newborns with complex care needs
The unit has 74 beds and provides 24-hour, family-centered care to sick babies. With sleep chairs at each bedside, shower rooms for parents, lactation services, and diurnal lighting to simulate the day/night cycle, the NICU at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children has all the amenities to bring comfort and convenience to these babies and their families.
As a not-for-profit medical center, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children relies on donations from the community to provide exceptional medical care to women, children, and families. Kyte Baby’s donation will not only help save the lives of medically fragile newborns, but also support Kapiolani’s broader mission to create a healthier Hawaii.
