How to Enjoy Lake Tahoe in the Fall

When & How to Get Rid of the Pacifier Reading How to Enjoy Lake Tahoe in the Fall 7 minutes Next Baby Safety Guide for New Parents

Known as the Sapphire Heart of the Sierra Nevada, Lake Tahoe draws in millions of visitors each year. All who visit the crystal clear lake are rendered speechless by its breathtaking alpine scenery: aquamarine water, sandy beaches, snow-covered mountains, towering pine trees, and bluebird skies. Although Lake Tahoe is a popular skiing destination in the winter, one the best times to visit the largest alpine lake in North America is during the fall. Lake Tahoe’s peak seasons are the summer and the winter, but fall is a time when it’s not only less hectic due to the summer traffic winding down, but you can also view the changing of the seasons in all its spectacular glory.

Like any family vacation, one of the keys to making things run smoothly is to pack everything you need! With high altitude and so many sunny days in the year, Lake Tahoe’s UV index can be high—even when it’s overcast. Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen to protect your little one and check off all the items in our ultimate travel packing list once, twice, and even three times. Going on a trip with kids can be as challenging as it is fun, and it isn’t always easy finding family-friendly activities that are also entertaining for the adults. That’s why we made this itinerary to make your fall getaway in Tahoe one for the

DAY ONE

7:00AM: Watch the sunrise on Cave Rock Trail (1430 U.S. 50, Glenbrook, NV)

Formed over 3 million years ago, Cave Rock is still considered a sacred site for the Washoe people, whose ancestors once performed religious ceremonies inside the largest of the caves. It is also known as “The Lady of the Lake” because the profile of a woman’s face looking out toward the lake can be made out from the rock formation. Because Cave Rock is a sacred site and cultural resource, climbing the rock is a banned activity. Parking spots here are scarce, so the earlier, the better. Bring a soft structured baby carrier, as the trail is not stroller-accessible.

With nearly 400 feet of elevation gain, you’ll want to leave behind any heavy equipment and make the hike with a soft structured baby carrier.
