Kyte Baby’s signature bamboo rayon is a fabric unlike any other. Although bamboo fabric is becoming an increasingly popular material for layette and children’s sleepwear, our bamboo rayon has a silky, cloud-soft feel that is unmatched. Since 2014, parents all over the world have fallen in love with our signature fabric—a blend of 97% bamboo rayon and 3% spandex—and have entrusted their little ones’ sleep to us. When you think of Kyte Baby, you think of bamboo. We work almost exclusively with bamboo (with the exception of our ring slings, which are made of flax linen) because it’s a sustainable resource and it does what other fabrics just can’t. It all started when our founder, Ying Liu, realized that her youngest daughter had trouble sleeping because of chronic eczema. Restless at night due to hot, stinging skin aggravated by her pajamas, her baby would pull her clothes open to cool down. Ying began researching breathable fabrics that would soothe her baby’s skin instead of irritating it and had her ‘aha!’ moment when she discovered bamboo.
Bamboo fibers create a fabric that is 3 degrees cooler than cotton, silky smooth to the touch, and exceedingly gentle on delicate skin, making it the perfect fabric for those with skin conditions like eczema. Bamboo has proven itself superior in every aspect from breathability to absorption, and its thermoregulating properties prevent overheating. Ying realized that bamboo fabric would not only help her baby, but babies everywhere. Our signature bamboo rayon that she developed is the Goldilocks of fabrics—not too hot, not too cold, and just right for deep, restful sleep. It’s lightweight, breathable, soothingly soft, naturally antimicrobial, hypoallergenic, and safe for sensitive skin. The list of benefits doesn’t stop there. Bamboo is not only a natural resource, it’s one of the most sustainable ones. It’s the fastest-growing plant on the planet, incredibly versatile in its uses, and it goes without saying that our favorite use is in clothing.
Kyte Baby is best known for its sleepwear because that’s where it all began. Our bestselling Original Bamboo Sleep Bag is a wearable blanket that helps reduce the risk of SIDS by replacing loose blankets (which are a hazard) and preventing babies from overheating (which is another known risk factor). Our bamboo pajamas help little ones get better quality sleep by keeping them cool and comfortable, which, in turn, helps parents sleep better, too. Over the years, we’ve expanded our collection to include bath items, daywear, and adult wear. We have also developed different bamboo fabrics for these collections, including bamboo jersey, bamboo terry, and ribbed bamboo. Here’s a closer look at all the fabrics we use:
Our original bamboo rayon is the most lightweight of all our fabrics. Silky smooth and stretchy, our signature fabric is unbeatable in softness, which is why we use it for everything from sleep bags and loveys to layette and underwear. If you’re looking for the softest sleepwear imaginable, you don’t need to look further than our original bamboo material.
Our bamboo jersey fabric is used for daywear because it tends to pill less easily and is better suited for play, thanks to its durable construction. Although this material is slightly thicker, warmer, and not quite as smooth or as stretchy as our original bamboo, it’s still wonderfully soft and comfortable for all-day play.
Our ribbed bamboo fabric is the thickest and coziest option for our sleepwear and daywear fabrics. Luxuriously soft and textured, this thick fabric is far better suited for cold weather than our original bamboo or our bamboo jersey. Because of the ultra-stretchy rib knit design, our ribbed bamboo pieces are cut in a slightly narrower fit to stay true to size.
Although bamboo fibers are already highly absorbent, the looped construction of our bamboo terry increases surface area and enhances absorbency, making it an extremely efficient material for our bath items, burp cloths, and bibs. This fabric is super soft, luxuriously plush, and cuts drying time in half.
The only non-bamboo fabric we work with is flax linen. Used for our ring slings, our flax linen is made from the flax plant. Because flax yarns are extremely thick and strong, our ring slings are highly durable. The fabric is also notably soft and breathable, making it the perfect option to hold your little one’s weight (up to 35 lbs!) while keeping them cool and comfortable.
